A note from your Executives

Stephen Powell

General Manager/COO

As we move into the heart of the season, I wanted to share an update on the clubhouse renovation and what’s ahead for the Club.

We continue to make steady progress on the renovation, and it’s exciting to see the vision for Riverbend begin to take shape. There’s still work to be done, but each week brings us closer to delivering a space our membership can be proud of for years to come. I look forward to sharing more details with you at our upcoming membership meeting, where we’ll walk through the progress and what to expect moving forward.

April was a great month for the Club, highlighted by a very successful Easter Brunch. It was wonderful to see so many families come together and enjoy the day. We’re looking forward to carrying that momentum into May as we prepare to host our Mother’s Day Brunch in celebration of all the incredible mothers in our Riverbend community.

We’re also excited to kick off pool season with our annual opening day cookout. It’s always a great time for families and kids to get out, enjoy the day, and spend time together around the pool. And some good news—we’re happy to have the diving board back this season.

As we look ahead, May is shaping up to be a busy and exciting month. We have a full calendar of events, highlighted by my favorite tournament of the year—our Member-Member. Our team is focused on enhancing this event in every way, and we’re looking forward to a great weekend of golf, camaraderie, and competition.

Thank you all for your continued support, patience, and belief in this project. It truly means a great deal as we work to build something special together.

Superintendent

I wanted to share an update on the recent work completed on the 7th green and a few other areas around the course.

During renovation of the 7th green, we excavated down to what should have been the gravel layer of a USGA-spec green. Instead, we found a native push-up base with excessive clay, which has contributed to the drainage issues many of you have experienced.

To correct this, we rebuilt a key 10’ x 10’ section using 6 inches of washed drainage gravel and 10.5 inches of USGA-spec greens mix, compacted in 2–3 inch lifts to ensure stability and prevent future settling. This repair should also improve drainage across much of the green, as water naturally funnels toward the center and front.

We completed similar work on the chipping green and the 13th green. In addition, greens 5, 11, and 14 received a sod “facelift” to improve overall turf quality and playability.

We kindly ask that you avoid these repaired areas over the next few weeks to allow for proper grow-in and root development.

As we transition into summer, greens have been lowered to our seasonal height. You may notice periods where they play slightly slower due to nitrogen applications supporting recovery and turf health. Tees, fairways, and select rough areas will also receive fertility applications, and with recent rainfall, we expect continued improvement.

We appreciate your patience and support as we work to enhance the long-term quality of the course. We’re looking forward to a great season ahead.
